    Anybody worked with funded.today?

    by Danchello » Tue Sep 20, 2016 1:02 pm

    Hi guys,

I was wondering if anybody has worked with funded.today? I have recently launched a campaign, so I now am considering working together with a PR agency.

Please share you experience with funded.today or other agencies. Thanks

    Hey Danchello,

I think you should check out this forum article.

    kickstarter-marketing-my-experience-with-funded-today-t6624.html

It seems like several members have had trouble with this company, including one of my own clients.

In general, I advise you to be very weary of marketing agencies that claim they can get you huge coverage and easily fund your campaign. Some agencies really do have media connections and can be a great source of advice and media attention, but I would recommend focusing on your product and your story first. If you feel like you have something really newsworthy, consult an agency.

Sal has a ton of amazing advice, in his podcast and his blog to help you get started.

These two may be particularly helpful,

    You can also check out

Check out these things first, if you feel like you need extra help, at least you will have some good background information to tell the agency that you speak with.

Hope this helps a bit =)

    Hi Ignitecfp,

Thank you for such detailed reply. We have worked hard on our content, video and graphics.

I'll definitely will take into consideration the info you provided. Maybe I'll try to invest in facebook and twitter ads myself. If funded today can do it, then we can too ;)

Are there many people on this forum? Seems quiet.

    Thanks
Your support for my current Kickstarter campaign would be awesome!

I had recently considered working with them at with 2 weeks left.. but decided not to.
Though they might have many successful projects, they also have recent projects that have failed. Plus, without any guarantee of succeeding, I was asked to put 5,000$ up front fixed fee with 35% commission on whatever pledge that came in after working with them.
What's the point of running a crowdfunding campaign if you're going to have 35% to a marketing agency? (unless 1. you are running on purely marketing purposes, and 2. you have set enough profit margin higher than that).. so I passed. I'm glad I have passed, because even if I had succeeded with them, my campaign would have been a deficit.

Yes, if you blow up your prices before your Kickstarter +35% it might work (that is if their reach brings enough people for your higher priced product). And then you also have to earn back the USD5000, because that is not discounted from the 35% (which in my opinion it should).

If you have a reward that is priced USD100 they need to bring at least 715 backers only to recover the 5K (8% Kickstarter fee + 35% Funded Today + 50% to pay for your reward and shipping and tax leaves USD7 to recover the 5K upfront = 715 pledges just to break even.

35% Sound ridiculous though ... you sure they ask that much ? I assumed would be scaled to your own profit margin .... like 35% of your own margin and taking into consideration paying the researchers designers and manufacturer that should be more funded today's share should be probably about 3-10% of the sales that come through their referral. In my own opinion .. if your profit margin is bigger than 25 on the actual product means you ain't giving much to the backers in the first place. Is my logic wrong?

Even worse: It's 35% of all sales from the moment they get involved + the USD5000 upfront. For FT it's a goldmine and without any risks...

I think your margin on a healthy Kickstarter project should be around 50-60%. Remember that it's not only the costs of your product that you need to recover, but also enough funds to actually continue your (new) business after your Kickstarter (and then I am not even taking your hours spent into account). In our case we have spent more money on the preparation of our product and the marketing of the Kickstarter than we actually have funded right now. But this is money well spent and we would not have our product ready for market without it. With the Kickstarter we want to create enough stock that we can use after the Kickstarter to become profitable. Economics are more than just producing something and making a small profit on it :)
