this is a thread to discuss everything concerning the Calyos NSG S0 fanless chassis

You can ask questions, discuss ideas, post your planned PC-setup, ask for opinions and share whatever else you would like to discuss.

I'm a backer of the NSG S0 and I'm looking forward reading your ideas and inputs!

My planned setup (any inputs welcome):

Budget +- 2000 Euros

PSU Enermax Digifanless (550W) (arrived)
MB GA-AX370-Gaming K7 (ordered)
ram G.SKILL Flare X, 16GB (F4-3200C14D-16GFX)
ssd 1TB Samsung MZ-75E1T0B/EU 850 EVO internal SSD
CPU Ryzen 7 1700
GPU vega 10?

I'm not sure how many others agree with me, but I'd like not to have any front ports as I think it ruins the clean look a bit, so it would be nice if you were able to choose one with no cutouts for them. For example, take a look at the MBX MKII case

While we can't go SLI/CF, there are other perks to x370.
To name the most important ones:
- higher ram overclocks (both natively and through BCLK), something that is really important with Ryzen
- Better voltage regulation for the CPU (more stable CPU overclocks)
- More usb ports natively supported by CPU lanes
- USB C (although some B350 boards has this too)
These are the main perks, that lead me to prefer the x370 chipset, even given its much higher price.
There are many other bells and whistles that you can get, though, but that all depends on the specific model and manufacturer.
Depending on the motherboard:
- Clear CMOS
- Bios reset
- Dual bios
- More m.2 ports
- m.2 port
- Wifi
- Troubleshooting display
- Onboard power switch
- More RGB options (looking at you, gigabyte...)
- Better looks (arguably)
- Additional CPU power headers
- Ram/m.2 shield/armor
- Often better onboard audio
- Often better VRM cooling
- Better LAN (intel/killer gigabit, usually. There's even an Asrock board with 2gb capability)
- Better onboard temperature monitoring
- Other random stuff ruch as the 3D mounting points found on the ASUS Crosshair VI Hero, or the extra power connector for the PCI-E slots found on the MSI Titanium

TL:DR
You just get more stuff and high end features (depending on the specific board). Where you'd get the most value, is probably in the super high end boards (ASUS Crosshair, Gigabyte Gaming 5/K7, MSI Carbon/Titanium, Asrock Taichi/Fatality), since upgrading to something like the ASUS Prime would basically just give you SLI/CF (which we can't use), and slightly better overclocking of ram/cpu + a few extra fast usb ports.

I allready bought a psu from enermax on amazon.de because I expect a preis rise for the rare :
550W Enermax Digifanless EDF550AWN, 93% Eff', 80 PLUS Platinum, SLI/CrossFire, Full Modular, EPS 12V, Fanless, ATX PSU
This psu from june 2015 have 4 port for the PCI-e and a ZDPMS port so i can change voltage of everything live on screen for overclocking.
Will wait until the answer give to AMD Ryzen by Intel to buy couple Motherboard and CPU.
32 GB 3200mhz RAM i want
I will take a GTX 1080 TI from EVGA I think
I'm waiting for the m2 nvme 1TB 960 EVO or PRO SSD from samsung to come at lower price.

26°c room temperature, 105°c for max cores & package usually.

4X USB 3.0, 4X USB2.0, 2x LAN 1000Mbs, Wifi n, Optical and jack, SD Card reader via internal USB 3.0
All in one fanless aircooling small form factor, completely silent
Stable in most conditions if I'm not asking for 3d performance ( Dxo Is not stable, lightroom I can disable, ... )
Dust-proof
But when room temperature > 32°c = problem sometimes in summer time PC hangs.

As an owner of HDPLEX H5 and Lian-Li I am used to a clean minimalist yet functional design so I am totally with you. I would even get rid of the Calyos text everywhere and leave only the simple logo in the front center panel. They should separate the inner sliding rack from the front panel and make multiple versions w/out cutouts for both the front and side hdd rack.

As I wrote in my question today I am mainly really concerned about the dust collectiing in radiators. I can already see myself cleaning and dusting this case every weekend doh. I was even willing to wait out for the closed Workstation version because the internal layout make much more sense. Unfortunately they will probably not offer any new models until after this kickstarter will be completed and shipped.

Like what is the point of designing a sleek case with glass cover only to then ruin it with glued PCIe holder, where they can just make a PCie slot above the PSU and use extender PCIe cable? it would be facing upwards and use natural convection through the radiator fins.

The whole project seems a little rushed. They say they finalized the design but some parts are clearly not well thought out. I was expecting at least in the initial phase they would try to collect and incorporate suggestions from backers.

Oh well, sorry for the long rant.

As for my setup I have an old Seasonic X-650 and EVGA 1060 SC 6GB which I probably use step-up and upgrade to either 1080 or 1080Ti.
I don't trust AMD yet so for CPU and MB I think I'll go with ASROCK Z270 Taichi and i7-7700K.

which looks interesting, although looking at pictures it looks very cheap so not sure.

Thanks for the input guys. I will have to recheck my mb choice it seems. I don't need reset buttons on it and such but a nice quality and cooling is always good. And the looks are much better IMHO.

Psu: I jumped for the 550W Enermax Digifanless EDF550AWN after reading reviews. Thank you for the advise! First part ordered hehe

In terms of PSU, I am actually going to get one with a fan. The one in mind is the EVGA Supernova P2 650w. Now, before says something like "why would you put a fanned psu in a fanless pc", please consider this:
- This specific unit costs much less, but still remains fanless up untill ~500w (according to johhnyguru and kitguru). This is more than enough even for the most demanding single graphics card setup.
- it's actually really nice to have a fan just for the added safety. This is reflected in the 10 year manufacturer warrenty.
- it's one of the best performing units overall.
- even when the fan does spin, we're talking 31-34 db of noise - it's essentially quiet.
