Hi, I'm Elizabeth Skola Davis, a composer living in Columbia, MD, half way between Baltimore and Washington, DC.

I've started a kickstarter for a project getting kids in a youth orchestra in Irvine CA to record a ballet I recently wrote. It's up and running, but I'm disappointed at the lack of response and really don't know how else to reach out other than what I have already done.

I think this forum may help me immensely, and look forward to getting to know folks and maybe some day being in a position to help somebody else.

Just wanted to say thanks! What an incredible idea for a forum. There is a lot of great info here and it is VERY useful to learn the art of Kickstarting! My campaign is off to a slow start however am optimistic I can gain a little more traction with the knowledge learned here.

Greetings!!

Brad here, FNG, looking to get involved with the communuity(ies). I intend to launch my first Kickstarter Campaign next Thursday the 20th. Pretty nervous about it, have only done internal promoting (friends/family/Facebook). I'm going to submit my project this Thursday and hope it's approved within a week. It's a Product Design project, so hopefully it's ready to rock in time!

I've looked a little into FB Ads but most say it's hard to tell if it was worth it. I have a twitter, but no experience or followers. My main goal was to contact bloggers and submit posts on different Reddit subgroups that relate to my idea. Any suggestions?

My basic strategy would be:
1. Get commitments from friends/family/professional network for 30% of your fundraising goal in the first week. If you can't do that, then hustle and pull long nights to get to 30% in your first week (or at least to drive traffic and see whether or not it converts/what you need to fine-tune).

2. You should be devouring everything you can get your hands on regarding marketing, social media, and campaigning. You're probably going to have to learn a fair amount and maybe go outside your comfort zone a little, but those skills will benefit you long-term.

3. Research your niche. Get a cup of coffee and set aside 2 hours to comb google and generate a list of communities and bloggers in your niche. When you post in a community, just be sure to not promote your campaign with the first post. Engage, ask questions, leave replies.

4. Execute on your strategy - measure what is working/what is not working (can use bitly to track traffic) - SHARE those results here so that we can provide feedback and also so other creators can learn from it. Keep retooling and improving your strategy.
