"This film chronicles the extraordinary survival of 3 Fisherman who drifted 2200 miles for 33 days from Tobago to the Gulf of Mexico."

    What is the movie about?

The Documentary movie 33 Days - Lost at Sea will depict the incredible story of three humble fishermen Joseph Ramkissoon, Anil Ramsook and Andy John White. On June 25, 2003 the three men went on a fishing expedition with the expectation of returning home after a few hours. However their plans were spoiled when their small boat lost engine power causing them to float aimlessly for 33 days.Their boat drifted 2200 miles from Trinidad and Tobago all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. During their incredible voyage they would endure both physical and psychological anguish. Andy John White developed severe sunburns that festered into bloody, oozing sores that eventually ravaged his entire body. It is believed that his physical ailments were exasperated because he initially drank seawater against the other fishermen’s advice. Andy’s sores attracted a school of sharks that trailed the ship for their last week at sea. It was later revealed that the other fishermen considered throwing him out to sea as a means to protect their own survival but decided against it. This is just one of a series of events that occurred on their dramatic voyage.

The Mexican army eventually found the weakened and unconscious men near the Yucatan Peninsula. Initially the authorities suspected that the fishermen were either drug lords or arms dealers however it soon became obvious that they were on a rescue mission, as the survivors were days if not hours away from death. The rescued fishermen were hospitalized for a few weeks in Mexico and were the topic of numerous newspaper articles and television appearances. They were finally returned home to Trinidad and Tobago where they received a heroes’ welcome by the local press and the Trinidadian government. They were offered jobs and land by the government but unfortunately those promises were never realized.

While it seems quite fascinating, is there really that big an audience for this type of stuff?
