What Can Be Learned from Kickstarter Scams

    by sbriggman » Mon Jul 28, 2014 2:27 pm

I saw this article on GameSkinny and think it had some good takeaways drawn from the Areal Kickstarter project, which was suspended for being scammy.

If you're a backer, be sure to do your research once you support a project.
    - Plug the creator and company's name into google
    - Check out their twitter feed/social media accounts
    - Have they worked on similar projects in the past or backed other projects?

Check out KIckstarter Fraud Watch Sites, like:

    http://vaporstarter.com/
    http://crowdfrauds.com/
    http://kickscammed.com/

and our fraud watch section: news-fraud-watch-popular-projects-f13.html

If you're a creator, be sure to do the following to stay transparent.
    - Highlight previous projects you have worked on in the past (and websites your work can be found)
    - Include all of your social media accounts
    - Never ignore backer emails or comments. Respond promptly
    - If you're going to mess up in some way, just come clean! Be open about the production process and any kinks that you may or do run into.

    What do you think?
