Maybe you haven't read it correctly Sir. Self-promoting is the last thing it was intended to do, especially when I'm saying I'm paying these 2 companies a hefty sum for promoting it :)

Yes Sir! I read it. If you weren't self promoting, why did you add your link?

Product Hunt is another great example, there are quite a few resources online that breaks down a strategy to get your product featured on it!

Hi, but just to confirm - Producthunt isn't paid promotion. Usually can get on there if a "Hunter" knows about your site or you post it on Twitter (Just the pitch only) and include @producthunt ...someone will see it!

Quick Update: Like mentioned before (and in doing so, ruffling the above guys feathers a bit, sorry for that), we hired CrowdfundingPR and Ayudos for our Indiegogo campaign's promotion. We took their Platinum ($160) and Super ($345) packages respectively. After 10 days, here's the status:

    - CrowdFundingPR has put our news release on about 500 sites (as promised) and they have featured us on their site also (again, as promised)
    - As far as Ayudos is concerned, we simply don't know what they are upto. They don't respond well to mails and we don't see any signs of their work on the internet (as of now). Hope they do whatever they do soon because we've already hit the slump (http://www.crowdfundingpr.org/kickstarter-slump/)

I'll put another update after our campaign is through, so that future campaigners can learn from our experience with these two companies at least. As of now, among the two, I'd recommend CrowdFundingPR.

Yeah I've heard a couple of complaints about Ayudos too, but I didn't want to judge. But if we get any enquiries, we hope to reply within a couple of hours - even if it's a "Thanks we got your email, just wanted to reply to say we're on the case and will contact you shortly today..."

With CrowdfundingPR, what was the response of the 500 or so news release sites? I know it takes time to filter through..
    - Again, my approach would be to find related sites that would talk about you. So by doing the research on your competitors, you can target the same people.
    - Putting you on their site is ok. You didn't mention social media, I guess they tweeted it out.

It's weird, Crowdfunding reminds me of when web design was popular and people wanted a site. They were paying big bucks to companies who talk alot, who didn't do a good enough job. When you did the research on the owners, they had no idea of running a business or experience in the field of web. I know Crowdfunding is quite new, but you need to do your research...I suppose threads like this help alot. *My 2 cents* :)

We're also trying hard not to judge them as yet. Maybe they are working too hard, at least that's what I keep telling myself. As for response of the 500 news sites, it's been only 2 days. There doesn't seem to be any traffic driven through them as yet, but having 500 links in Google search should help. Just did a quick search for "social casino" and found our news link on the first page. For now, that should be good enough.

Rest, your inputs are well taken. In fact, we did approach a few journalists and bloggers who have written about our field in the past. No response as yet.

As for tweets, yes, they did tweet too (sorry for the omission).

Actually if you do a search on this forum for "ayudos" - I think that gives you an idea of how client's think of them ;/

I'm a bit wary of the 500+ links. There's no Google value from them (putting my SEO hat on now!) as they'll drop off in the rankings anytime soon, plus it's duplicate content which Google hates.

    - What the PR blast is good for is Reporters looking at the live feeds, then getting an idea to write a story or whether the editor asked for X themed story, then if your campaign fits the bill then they'd write about you...a bit like fishing in big river with a moving tide...but they may "catch you", so you can't discount it.

If I was involved in your campaign, I'd look at what your competition did. Track them > find out how they got backers and who they contacted. Also get your campaign page as good as it can be!

Look, will people please wake up and smell the coffee.

Instead of telling the community how many links/retweets/post these blood sucking PR bots are promising and that you lapped up, how about sharing the useful bit - what impact did it have on bottom line of your campaign. This is all that matters, period. How many new backers and how much new revenue?

As for the "I'd never have time to send it out to 500 journalists" piece, I'm holding my head in my hands. Stop what you're doing and FIND THE TIME. If there is one truth in the crowd funding game it's that there ain't no-one going to be doing the heavy but you pal. If someone says they will, they're probably lying. If someone says they will for $49 they are taking you for a ride.

    Breath.

I've been using Krowdster for about 3 weeks now and my Twitter following grew from 190 to 1350 followers, Great engagement and my follow back rate is over 10% so that's promising. I am preparing a Kickstarter for my horror short film but according to their analytics I need at least 5000 followers. Good thing I have a few months time before my planned launch date. I don't have any emails and my Facebook page doesn't get any engagement so I am very hopeful Twitter is the one.
