Is using a fireproof spray for fabrics like cotton and wool worth it?

Is using a fireproof spray for fabrics like cotton and wool worth it?

I picked up a couple of thrifted wool blankets and some old cotton curtains, and now my family keeps bugging me about fire safety because we use candles way too often. I keep seeing these fireproof sprays online, but I can't tell if they're legit or just gimmicky. Some reviews say they stiffen the fabric, others say they wash right out. I'm kinda hoping for something that actually works without ruining the feel of the material. Has anyone here tried these sprays on natural fibers? Worth the money or just marketing fluff?

I’ve used those sprays on cotton curtains, and they helped a bit but washed out fast and made the fabric slightly stiff. I’d still pair them with basic fire‑safe habits.

I’ve used a fire retardant spray for curtains on some vintage cotton panels, and it didn’t change the look or feel at all. What I noticed most is that it stopped small test flames from spreading, which gave me some peace of mind since I burn candles a lot too. It does need reapplying after washing, but for stuff you rarely launder, it holds up pretty well.
