Another home improvement question, re fireplaces

    by charli55 » Tue Oct 21, 2025 9:54 am

Has anyone here ever had their brick fireplace painted or resurfaced? We are updating details in our post-and-beam contemporary home and the traditional dark red brick fireplace is not looking so fresh in the context of our design.

We have thoughts of resurfacing it, but we are thinking of painting it first, in the same color as the walls, as a lower-cost solution. I just wondered if anyone here has done this and if you’re happy with the results. I’ve seen some examples online that look good.

The first two pics give you an idea of how tall the darn thing is, even though it’s blocked by cartons of kitchen cabinets. The walls will be painted after the kitchen reno is done, and our hardwood floors will be refinished to a dark shade. We’d like to get away from the “lodge” feel and lean more contemporary. The paint swatch in 3 and 4 is the color we are pretty sure we’re using throughout — SW Agreeable Gray.

I see it’s been a while since you’ve posted, but I just wanted to ask if anyone ended up going with an electric insert that still gives off a realistic flame effect? I’m starting to consider switching from a traditional wood fireplace and would love more firsthand thoughts. Also curious if anyone’s changed their mind over time about loving or missing their original setup.

I was in the same spot a few months ago figuring out turf for my sim setup. I ended up going with a local installer I found through https://emersonproservices.com/carrollton/ and they helped me pick out something that worked great for both putting and hitting. Really happy with how it turned out—durable, looks good, and feels right for full swings and chips.
