I happened to watch a recent Grasstec video of a farm with a new rotary, that was utilising gas to heat the wash water. The cost per kW was less than 1/3 of electric.
Presumably the gas uses instantaneous water heaters, which must be better than the electric one here, which is 27kW, with a rather underwhelming performance, heating water for calf powder, which takes about 10 minutes to fill a Wyevale feeder to about 40*C. Sparky has checked it and it is drawing the full whack.
Electricity use remains stubbornly high, despite a variable speed milk pump, decent high flow plate cooler and heat recovery on compressors. That leaves the vacuum pump and water heating to further investigate.
Does anyone have a gas system to heat their water, is it cheaper than electric heating?
