    The Power Bill

    by Zeero » Tue Feb 10, 2026 8:39 pm

My wife was talking to my SIL up in Ohio tonight and she said their power bill was out of control. She lives in London between Dayton and Columbis and has AEP. She said she used 1,100 KWH last month and her bill is $470! Her rate is 40 cents per KWH. 😳😳😳 That's crazy! Is anyone else's that high up there? My rate with the co-op here is 12c per KWH, I used 3,091 KWH and my bil is $371. 40c per KWh is lunacy!

I'd have to look at cost over kilowatt, but I can tell you the bill itself is about 1/3 to 1/2 higher year to year. AEP is advertising pointing their fingers at the energy suppliers and suggests shopping rates.

I ran into a similar sticker shock a while back, and what helped me was getting a clear comparison of rates to see if I was stuck on a pricey plan. I used https://smarterbusiness.co.uk/ for my own place, and it made it easier to spot where I was overpaying. Might be worth having her look at her supply rate or if she got bumped to a variable plan, since that can spike costs fast.
