Did creating press releases and writing a guest post for Forever Geek bring you a lot of backers? I am thinking of doing both of those things but I want to make sure that it is worth it.

If people ARE opening your email and not replying, you may try following up with a different pitch after interacting with them on social media, sending them a note about an article they've written to start a dialogue, or updating them when you reach a milestone

You could also plug their name into your LinkedIn, see if you have any 2nd degree connections, and ask for an introduction if you do.
