Beware of those who want to cross promote or charge to share on other sites. I received a few of those types of messages within 12 hours of launch.

It's really annoying, especially when you see the green "activity" light and it turns out to be a Kickstarter spammer promoter.

i got quite a few messages from different people just after I launched my project. It's hard to figure out who is legit and who is running a scam.

Almost all of the messages I receive in the first days of my campaign are from marketing services. . I wish kickstarter would block them from contacting its members in such a spam- like way.

I just launched my first Kickstarter and within 8 hrs was messaged by someone want to cross-promote, but I had to put up $50 first and back his project.

It seemed really shady to me so I wrote a polite refusal.

Ebay uses a tracking mechanism for reputation, reddit has up and down voting. Seems like users and publishers should be able to up and down vote each other and as a publisher, I'd like to be able to set a threshold to not allow persons with a rep of 0 or lower to vote. I know, then they make fake profiles and scam us more, but still, let's at least make the value of stealing harder and make the cost benefit ratio a little more unfavorable.

I can see how this will get more prevalent and a user voting system might be a good idea GM Dave. It's a shame people target people who are looking to put their dreams into the world. May Kickstarter needs to put up a beware notice on the site?

I think all new projects get this marketing spam.
I just click on the spam and hope kickstarter removes them.

I have had this happen during my project. I had at least 5 different people message me asking if I needed help. The first one asked me within the first hour of my project's start and I was honestly excited. I thought to myself that this person really liked my project and was going to help promote it! I gave him my email address and then I had many emails coming in from all sorts of campaign boosters. Eventually I looked into them and they wanted at least $1,000 just for them to "boost" my campaign. I think all of this is just a scam.

My only recommendation is to do what larrymurk said and click on the spam button. Then Kickstarter will delete them.

And GM Dave had a great idea. So great that if you read this, if I were you I would submit that idea to Kickstarter. It's certainly a good way to get rid of the bad accounts on Kickstarter. It will also allow other users to see which project starters are trusted and reliable!

My project was up for less than an hour before i got 6 or 7 people sending me messages saying how they liked it and if I wanted help to raise money for my kickstarter I should send them X pounds and they would help I didn't fall and reported the comments strait away
