Meteo Gesualdo – A free local weather project from Italy expanding to iOS and new sensors

    by MeteoGesualdo » Thu Aug 20, 2026 10:24 pm

    Hi everyone!

I’m Aniello, the developer behind Meteo Gesualdo, an independent local weather project based in Gesualdo, a small town in Southern Italy.

Meteo Gesualdo is already online and operational. The project currently includes a local weather station, a website, an Android app, local weather data collection, and a custom forecasting and data-processing system.

The service is completely free for users, and the project is currently developed and funded mainly by myself.

I’m now preparing my first Kickstarter campaign to expand the existing platform.

The first funding goal is intentionally small and concrete:

🍎 Bring Meteo Gesualdo to iOS

If the campaign grows, the roadmap continues with additional local weather and environmental sensors:

    ⚡ Local lightning detection
    🌫️ Outdoor air-quality monitoring
    🌨️ Precipitation-type detection
🌦️ Eventually, a new primary professional weather station

All of these sensors would be integrated into the existing Meteo Gesualdo infrastructure, combining additional local observations with the software and forecasting system already running.

One of the principles of the project is that Meteo Gesualdo will remain free and accessible to everyone, regardless of how much the Kickstarter raises.

The campaign is currently in pre-launch, so following the project does not require any pledge. It simply sends a notification when the campaign goes live.

I’m still preparing the launch and I’d genuinely appreciate feedback from people who have already run crowdfunding campaigns — especially about the roadmap, pre-launch promotion and communicating a small independent technical project.

    Thanks for reading!
