My first Kickstarter experience has definitely been a learning curve!

I launched my first campaign for Backlyst this weekend after spending more than two years developing the idea and platform.

If I’m being truthful, I went into Kickstarter expecting the platform itself to play a much bigger role in putting relevant projects in front of relevant backers. What I’ve quickly discovered is just how much seems to depend on bringing your own audience, generating early momentum and promoting the campaign externally.

Since launching, I’ve also been absolutely inundated with emails from people and agencies offering paid marketing, guaranteed exposure and access to “backer communities”, which I wasn’t expecting to anywhere near this extent.

The positive side has been the people. We’ve received hundreds of supportive messages about Backlyst and the problem we’re trying to solve, and I’ve had some genuinely helpful conversations with other creators who have been willing to share their experiences.

So at this early stage I’d describe my Kickstarter experience as mixed, but definitely educational. I’m learning a huge amount very quickly!

For anyone interested, this is my first campaign and I’d genuinely appreciate any feedback from experienced creators:

The video on there explains what we do but in a nutshell the platform is built so companies don’t have. To spend loads to grow with backlinks they can exchange them free with likeminded companies.

Any constructive advice is very welcome.

    Kind regards
