Tip #3 is to think of all the people who will want to hear about your campaign ahead of time. That way it is just copy, paste, click. You don't want to have to spend time putting together a list during your campaign because every day counts.

As soon as you get a supporter send them a follow-up 'THANKS' e-mail.
Shows that they are unique backer and not just $ going into your project.
Positive vibes.
Ask them to help further spread the word...

I myself just launched my campaign later last night and I couldn't be more happy reading all of these tips! Thanks so much for the friendly advice!

I am not sure what to do next, but I can say that an email sent to all your contacts is not enough. Even if your close family and friends will do their best, if they are not directly interested by the project, they won't really share or help you out.

Number 1 for me was serial personal emails to my important list of bloggers and online mags, and not quitting. I developed a list of 20 or so that I thought would be important, and I sent several personal emails to each one starting months before the campaign started, including the day of the launch. My number one pick, a fantastic blogger from Treehugger named Derek Markham wrote us up that very day. It was an incredible jump start. First time I'd heard from any one I'd emailed. In short order I had several others contact me when I mentioned I was written up by Derek.

Number 2 is local media. Same as above. We were finally written up in a Maine paper last week, and we'll be in two more this week. DON'T QUIT!

Along with Number 1 and Number 2 is keep the pedal to the metal when you have a good run - it's easier to get in touch with media when you're on a tear - success is engaging all on it's own. Fame is fleeting so strike hard when you can, and brag about your success and who's already written about you when you can!

Number 3 is updates. We've had 12 with 10 days to go in a 31 day campaign. We've had only one pledge withdrawn so far. I don't understand how a campaign can run for a month without keeping backers engaged.

Full disclosure: our campaign isn't finished yet and we haven't yet met our goal, but 1 tip I can credibly share is regarding tangible rewards.

If you give out shirts, stickers, etc. you have to pay sales taxes on that, and tangible rewards are often overused anyways, so just make sure to think them through if you use em!
